Apologies to the Queen Mary
by Wolf Parade
2006

2004 - 2006 I was obsessed with Arcade Fire (#OBSESSED!) and when I discovered this album by Wolf Parade, my prayers directed to the music gods had been answered. I’m not saying they sound similar but I get the same feeling as I do when I listen to this album. All these songs are great, you definitely won’t be wasting your time listening to this one.

Favorite songs:
You are a runner and I am my father’s son, Modern World, Same Ghost Every Night, Dinner Bells

There will be no more winter

Animal

by Ke$ha

2010

Guilty pleasure. Can you blame me? I got this album last winter when I was looking for good dance music for my 4 km walk to work and this definitely fit the description. Too often, I find myself dancing up the street, punching my fists in the air, wishing I too was covered in glitter and feel like I just brushed my teeth with a bottle of jack. Ke$ha knows how to create a hook. Well done, girl.

Favorite Songs:

Your Love is my Drug, Tik Tok, Take It Off, Backstabber, Boots & Boys

Alright, Still
by Lily Allen
2006
This album was a great change to what I normally listened to when it was released. I listened to a lot of british punk and alternative music, and Lily’s sound was so playful and fun. I still chuckle at the lyrics as I sign along with them. And always do a british accent. Am I the only one who does this?
Favorite Songs:
Smile, Knock ‘Em Out

And I’m like, “No. Not in a million years. You’re nasty. Please leave me alone.”
Afterglow
by Sarah McLachlan
2003
2004. Everything about this album makes me think of my senior year in high school. Our advanced modern dance class used the song ‘Time’ for the year end recital and I must of listened to that song on repeat for the next two months. I always think of how perfect that dance was. Every time I listen to this album, I just remember how carefree and trival my problems were at 17.
Favorite songs:
Time, Stupid, Fallen, World on Fire

You see love
The tight, thorny thread that’s just spin in a circle of gold
To have me, to hold me, a token for all to see
Captured to be yours alone

Adam’s Rib
by Melanie Doane
1998
Oh late 90s, how I’ve missed you. Fortunately all the music sticks around and I can keep playing it and no one is any wiser. Adam’s Rib reminds me of how much celtic music I listened to in 1995 when I was 9 (and obsessed with riverdance….), and how it eventually its influence came into popular music. This is a great album. So many catchy songs. Did I mention she’s Canadian? Rock on.
Favorite songs:

Actor
by St. Vincent
2009
The first time I heard Actor, I was in Urban Outfitters in 2010. How cliché. But shopping while listening to this album put me in the most amazing mood, so calm, exploring, enjoying the feeling. I could listen to this all day and not tire of it.

Abbey Road

For me, this album reminds me of my father. It is one of his favorites and was always in the car growing up. The mood of it makes me think of being 5 years old and rocking out in the car, even though I pretended to hate the music.

Come Together, I Want You (She’s So Heavy), You Never Give Me Your Money
